In November 2019 my wife, Mary Ann and I went to Uganda with Sylvia and a Team from our Church to visit the Mbiriizi School. As we exited the vans and entered the school, we were greeted by 1000 students and their wonderful Band. It bought tears to our eyes. The children are so beautiful and happy. We stayed for a week and helped with physicals for the children. We toured the entire complex including the classrooms. Our Team packaged 1000 bags of goodies for the Christmas party. We participated in the graduation and closing of the school for the year. We returned home to New Jersey and will never forget Sylvia’s Children and the impact Sylvia makes on the children, their families and the Community at large.

I have donated to this organization since it’s inception, and our daughter has gone to Uganda 3 times with Sylvia’s Children. Sylvia is directly involved with the school, and with the children and staff. She, and various volunteers, have traveled to Uganda for many years, bringing supplies and financial support. With Sylvia’s effort, they have achieved so much in making the school great for the children, including the orphans, who actually live at the school. New dormitories, a well, and a library are among the many accomplishments. Also, the village has benefited, because they been helped to be more self sufficient. Great organization. and one amazing woman….

Last November (2016) I went with Sylvia to help with the Christmas festivities. We also had a team of nurses who came to give physicals etc. It was a life changing experience! To see all these happy children, who have nothing, except what the sponsors provide, is remarkable. We visited classrooms, who teach without the benefit of textbooks,they learn everything by rote. Having been a teacher I was amazed at the quality of education, and all with class sizes twice the size of those in the U.S. I was 72 when I went and I promised the children I would return when I was 75, so I need to stay healthy!

I have known Sylvia for over 20 years. We served together on our church’s mission committee, which she chaired, and where she advocated and worked for many worthy causes. So it has been no surprise to witness her heartfelt devotion to her “grandchildren” in Uganda.
The nonprofit, Sylvia’s Children, has made such a wonderful and hopeful change to the children of Mbrizi, and by extension, the entire village. I was able to sponsor Joan Nakidde for some of her higher education, which she completed, and is now a teacher. I feel honored to be able to donate to such a worthy endeavor.

My family and I have been supporters of Sylvia’s Children for over a decade. This organization is the real deal! All monies go to the children and it’s amazing what Sylvia has been able to accomplish year after year. Sponsoring the education of these children has been incredibly rewarding and humbling.

This is an impressive mission with an extremely high impact.

We traveled to Uganda with Sylvia;s Children and saw first hand the wonderful work they have done with the Mbrizzi school. The children are learning well and going on to higher learning including one who became a nurse and is back in the village. infirmary.

Sylvia’s Children is truly doing “God’s work”. Led by Sylvia Allen this organization came into my life over 5 years ago. I have only been able to make small donations that I know help but I wish they could be larger because every dollar is put toward helping these great children get the chance we all want for the people on this earth. These kids deserve the chance to experience things they otherwise could not imagine and Sylvia’s Children makes that dream come true.

While working with Sylvia herself through the years, a friendship has grown that I value deeply. The stories she tells about this organization (Which has become her passion) are always wonderful. No matter the people involved or how grim the setting, this organization makes great things happen. She told me of a very strong woman that has grown up in the organization and can today boldly stand up for herself and all women in her community to show how strong and valuable they are. We all know that culturally this is not common and through the education and guidance of the staff and volunteers have provided her, this girl is making a future where none existed before. After sharing this powerful story, Sylvia presented me with a hand woven basket from one of “her children” and through tears she relished how touched I was and how the depth of that gift left me speechless. It was funny that the basket’s creator apologized to Sylvia that it took him over three hours to complete it!! I could not have made it in three years! The basket now has a prominent place in my home and serves as a reminder to be thankful each day for all of my blessings and that there are still people in the world who need some help just to survive each day and that I need to try harder to provide more assistance to them. The organization is great and Sylvia is an angel!

Sylvia Allen has created a beautiful cooperative project with students and staff at Mbrizzi. Her mission was not charity but empowering and that is what she has done. And that is what makes every dollar given to Sylvia’s Children so vital. 100% of the donations go to the school, funding education, community projects, medical care. The school and local community is a better place because of this cooperative effort between Sylvia’s Children and Mbrizzi. I have seen it first hand and encourage anyone interested to join one of her yearly trips to the school. You will be changed forever.

I met Sylvia through a colleague/friend in 2018. When I heard Sylvia’s story about Mbiriizi and the school, I knew I had to experience it firsthand.
A group of us from MN and another PA from the East coast collected jewelry for the staff/families and medical supplies.
In 2019 we joined Sylvia and other volunteers for a week to celebrate Christmas, graduation, and performed 600 physicals on the kids. We laughed, we toured the farms, we no ones the kids in classrooms and helped diagnose and treat illness in the new clinic. We ,along with other volunteers over the years , helped Sylvia’s vision to change one child at a time.
I have fond memories and still collect jewelry for Sylvia to bring overseas. I raised funds to help purchase livestock-pigs and chickens over the last 3 years.
I will try to post with photos (attempt 2). When you see the kids with Sylvia, you realize how she indeed became Grandma Sylvia- like any Grandma, she puts her heart and soul into helping these children mature and reach their potential in their community.
Please consider how you can continue this phenomenon endeavor to help one child at a time.

Our Rotary Club of North St. Paul-Oakdale-Maplewood in MInnesota sponsored a District 5960 Global Grant for Sylvia’s Children which will pay tuition for 36 orphaned students to attend secondary school for one year. This is EXACTLY the kind of nonprofit we were looking for, and Sylvia’s Children has provided our club with an international partnership worth investing in for years to come. We aim to improve lives locally and globally and thanks to Sylvia, we are reaching those goals!
